STRESS EATING!!!

Do you ever have those days when you leave work and feel like this?

I had one of those days yesterday for a variety of different reasons – you know the type I am talking about.  Everyone around you is complaining, your food is cold, your family members are stressing you out and you’re tired from the night before because you woke up at 2am thinking about the creepy episode of Criminal Minds you watched the night before.

You know what I’m talking about.

I don’t know about you, but I my natural instinct is to find the nearest half gallon of ice cream and a utensil (I’ve been known to use a knife in the desperate time when all the spoons were dirty).  I mean literally, I feel like a lion on the prowl.  It’s ridiculous!  People say that during those times, you need to find something to distract you, read a book…go for a walk…take a bath.

Does a lion on mission distract itself by taking a bath?

No.

Point of the story….it’s HARD to fight that feeling (cue REO Speedwagon).

With my newest 30 day challenge, I promised myself that when (not IF…WHEN) I encountered this day, I would try one of these methods.  Yesterday was one of those days, and instead of making healthy choices…I lost all sense of what I was shooting for and ate the rest of the ice cream.

CRAP!

Here’s how I felt when I was done:

Do you ever just seem to “forget” what you are working for?  This has always been a huge obstacle of mine, like I suddenly entered some sort of dissociative fugue-like state. In the past, this probably would have derailed my efforts, but the older I get, the more I realize that I need to get over that “all or nothing mentality,” or I am never going to succeed!

So I have decided to do some further research into the topic of stress eating and trying to come together with a plan for myself that works, and includes solutions for something other than “taking a walk”.  So stay tuned for more on that.

What bad habit do you tend to fall into when you are very stressed out?

Cheers,

30 Day Challenge - Day 1

Greetings!  I've made it through my first official day of cleaning up my eating habits and trying to rid myself of a few of these pounds.  If you've ever thrown all into a weight loss program...sometimes those first few days can be rough.  And I'm talking "someone give me a spoon and the half gallon of peanut butter ice cream" rough.  But I made it! I did have my ice cream...but I had 1/2 cup instead of like, 2 cups.

**Huge victory**

I think part of the reason I am documenting my 30 Day Challenge on this blog is for accountability.  Aaaah accountability.  It can be the deal breaker when it comes to weight loss success.  Often times being accountable to ourselves just isn't enough.  There is the age old adage that you should "get a weight loss buddy."  But many of us just don't have the luxury of someone who is as committed to the cause as we are.

And thus I am forcing you to be my "weight loss buddy."  Thanks for listening :)

Here is a great article on how 12 ways to motivate yourself:

12 Ways to Motivate Yourself

I was successful in my endeavors to reduce portion sizes and make healthier choices.  I chose NOT to count calories....but instead decided this month will be about behavior change, intuitive eating and taking the pressure off myself.  More on that as I move forward

Here is a video clip of the workout I did today.  Cathe Friedrich is a big idol of mine-

I have decided to post my before and after pictures after the 30 days are over.  But I will say...starting weight = 220lb.

Here's to a healthy week!,

30 day Slimdown!

As a way to get myself a jump start back into the weight loss business...I am starting a 30 day challenge for myself.   The challenge is basic - follow an 1800-2000 calorie diet for 30 days.  Exercise 5 days per week for at least 30 minutes each time

Sounds simple right?

Not as simple for a hungry dietitian...especially one who works 50 hours a week and tends to eat to relax.

So three cheers to a little 30 day experiment in seeing what calorie reduction and increased exercise can do.  I also plan to start addressing my behavioral issues, such as eating when I am bored...fighting self defeating thoughts etc.  So I will report in on that.

Here's to the some weight loss!

Cheers,

Ooooooh the Rhythm of My Heart.... is Beating Like......

an extremely out of shape Buick

Not even Rod Stewart salvage this song.  Some of you may or not have known, I was sick this summer for about 6 weeks, and it kept me from exercising in any capacity.  When I finally got my bearings, I major a mistake of epic proportions.  I jumped back into my 60 minute, high intensity workout videos (more on my impressive, yet disturbingly large collection of exercise videos later).  Needless to say, this was me the next morning:

Do you ever jump into exercise a little too quickly? You think you might be a little more ripped than you really are?  Or think that your back and forth pilgrimage to the refrigerator counts as cardio training?

Apparently I did.  And it left me in...well... a slump!

If you want to get started on an exercise program, here are a few suggestions:

1) Start small - Even 5 minutes counts.  Add minutes on a weekly basis, with a goal of 4-5 days per week, 30 minutes a crack

2) Find something you like - It sounds cliche...but the truth is, you hear these cliche things all the time because they are TRUE.  Not everyone likes running.  I certainly don't, and neither do many of my fellow hungry brethren!

3) Get the family involved - Nightly walks every night after dinner might give you the energy boost you are looking for.

4) Get your doctor's approval - If you have a health condition, consider getting your doc's okay before starting a program.  That's why we have 20 dollar copays...right?

What kind of exercise do you like to do?  Everyone has SOMETHING they like but may not know it.  Think deep down...what could get you movin?

Cheers!

Rice is a great food, especially when you want 2000 of something!

Welcome!

My name is Christie Morgan and I love food.

I am also a dietitian. One HUNGRY dietitian!
...

I know, weird huh? You never thought a card carrying member of the "Food Police" would even touch a chip. Or ice cream. Or candy. Or cupcakes. Or bacon. Or...well you get the picture.

Another thing you should know about me is that I've also lost about 80lbs...with about 60 more to go. And let me tell you....I shed blood, sweat and tears for each and every ounce. Not to mention having to avoid alll the diet scams, pills and gadgets out there taking their sharpshooter aim at my efforts. How is ANYONE supposed to get healthy when you don't even know what is real and what's fake?

Um...check please?

Thanks for visiting and welcome to my journey geared at cutting through the crap when it comes to health and fitness. Because let's be honest.

Life is too short to not eat ice cream, but it's also too short to NOT take care of yourself.
